NMSEA Serving the Communities
2016 SHRED-FEST Albuquerque
NMSEA held our annual Albuquerque Shred Fest, Aug 20 (officially from 10 am to 1 pm). However, we had the first shredder truck ready to go about 9 am for early birds. We had sent to flyers and postcards to clients of our members plus emails to previous year’s Shred-Fest attendees who had provided their email addresses. Notices also appeared in Friday and Saturday editions of the Albuquerque Journal. What we did not know was that a couple of local TV news programs broadcast announcements about the Shred-Fest plus a local radio station announcement. We had someone who came from Socorro (about 80 miles south of Albuquerque) to have documents shredded. She heard about the Shred-Fest on the radio.
the second shredder truck arrived about 10 am. We had long lines from about 9:30 am right up to 1 pm when we had to close down the Shred-Fest and send people away if they were not already in line because both trucks were very close to capacity. Finally finished those in line about 3 pm. One truck left with two or three full barrels and several boxes of documents still to be shredded back at their company location. We shredded 20,682 pounds of documents.
An important additional activity for NMSEA was collecting school supplies, non-perishable foods used for student lunches and after-school snacks and cash donations for the Albuquerque Public Schools Title 1 donation program. We collected about 40 boxes of school supplies and food.
NMSEA volunteers included Sandy Weidner, Sandy Harstad, Mary Lois Hulsman, Ellen Briscoe, Helen Torran, Kay O’Connor, Pat Jenkins, Linda MacCauley, Barbara Padilla, Richard Wright, Dianne Brown, Sandy Westerfeld, John Niemi, Sue Pulses, Mae Lambert and Shelley Barker. Non-member volunteers were Ralph Padilla and Anne Wiker.
2016 SHRED-FEST Santa Fe
